Until fairly recently in history, people normally had to do a lot more walking just to function. Before cars, some people had horses, or in some cases other animals such as donkeys or maybe camels to transport them. But for the most part, when someone wanted to get somewhere, they walked.
It is not practical to suggest that you try to go back in time and live in a pre-technological world. You probably need your car to get to work, and you may even need to fly around the world for a business meeting. However, you can incorporate a more “walk conscious” attitude in your everyday life.
Even today, many people drive when they could easily walk. they also use other devices such as elevators and escalators instead of walking up or down stairs. You can get quite a bit of exercise simply be replacing some of your drives with walks. If you have a dog, this can provide a great excuse to get out and walk. If you don’t have a dog, maybe you should consider getting one!
Another thing to remember is that you don’t necessarily need a reason to walk. If you have a sedentary job in front of a computer, you still probably get breaks and most likely lunch. You can also probably sneak a few extra walks around the building, even if you have to stretch out a restroom break by a few minutes. This is not meant to encourage you to be a slacker at work, but the fact is by moving around more you can become more productive. Walking energizes you and keeps you healthier, in addition to burning off calories.
Whenever you walk, whether it’s at work, to the store or as an actual exercise session, try to remember to breathe deeply. This adds oxygen and energy to your walk.
Is walking a good method for losing weight fast? Honestly, by itself, walking is not something that is going to cause you to lose lots of weight overnight. However, it can be a surprisingly effective way to improve your overall habits. When you walk more, you may also be more inclined to want to do other exercises. It gets you into a more motion-oriented state of being.
The point is to incorporate walking into your everyday life in as many ways as possible. Don’t think of walking as some special exercise, but as a natural part of human life, which is what it’s always been!
